Buying forks for your forklift
A forklift without forks is like a human with no hands, a computer without a keyboard or a writer without a pen. Forklifts are designed to lift, transport and position loads, which means that these internal material handling machines are almost always equipped with two sturdy metal forks used to lift loads.
The JVD Parts webshop features an extensive range of forklift forks by the American brand Cascade, a global market leader with more than 70 years of experience. Choose the perfect forks for your forklift above and have them delivered within 3 working days. Or contact JVD Parts, your expert supplier of forklifts and parts.
What is a forklift fork?
The fork section of a forklift consists of two forks or spoons, a pair of detachable, robust, L-shaped components that slide underneath a pallet or other load to lift and carry it. The forks are attached to the fork carriage that moves up and down against the forklift mast. Forklift forks are undoubtedly the most popular and well-known forklift attachments. Choosing the right forks is crucial to ensure the efficient and safe operation of your machine.
Ordering the correct forks for forklifts
Interested in buying the best possible forklift forks for your application? If so, you need to take into account technical requirements such as the load bearing capacity and dimensions and choose the correct type.
Forklift fork load bearing capacity and dimensions
It will only be possible to lift loads of 2,000 kg providing not only your forklift, but also your forks have a load bearing capacity of at least 2 tonnes. The load bearing capacity of forklift forks depends on the material they are made of and on their dimensions. The thicker and wider the forks, the greater the loads they can handle.
The dimensions of forklift forks are determined by the height of the fork carriage on which they are mounted. A minimum fork length mm dimension is required to safely transport Euro pallets. The further the forks stick out, the more stable the load will be and the safer it will be to drive around with it.
Correct type of forklift fork
The most commonly used forklift forks are FEM or ISO forks. They are suspended with an upper and a lower claw. FEM forks are divided into 5 categories, from which you can choose based on the load bearing capacity of your forklift.
- FEM 1 to 1,000 kg
- FEM 2 from 1,000 to 2,500 kg
- FEM 3 from 2,500 to 5,000 kg
- FEM 4 from 5,000 to 8,000 kg
- FEM 5 from 8,000 to 11,000 kg
At JVD Parts you can order forklift forks from categories 2, 3 or 4. The maximum load bearing capacity can easily be derived from the name: Cascade Forks 2A belong to category 2, Cascade Forks 3A belong to category 3.
In addition to the commonly used FEM forks, manufacturers also developed the following types:
- DIN forks are suspended from the forklift at a different angle than FEM forks and are mostly used on heavier industrial vehicles in agriculture and construction.
- Pin forks have a hollow tube at the top which slides over a pin on the fork carriage of the forklift.
- Terminal West forks have the same suspension at the top as DIN forks, but at the bottom they are
attached with a pin through two eyelets.
Special forklift forks
Forks are also available for forklifts for special applications. Weighing forks, for example, will enable you to check the weight of goods whilst on the road and add up different loads. They can also count items, read codes and record data.
Hydraulic telescopic forks can easily be lengthened or shortened, making it easier to load and unload goods from the side of a truck. A more economical alternative are extension forks.
Alternative versions, e.g. with a non-slip coating for humid working environments, with a stainless steel casing for hazardous loads (at risk of explosion) or folding forks to increase manoeuvrability in tight spaces, are also possible.
Cascade, market leader in forklift forks
