What are fuses?

Fuses are electrical components that you will find in appliances, vehicles and buildings. The most basic version consists of an electrically conductive metal wire. This burns through in the case of overload, when the current exceeds the capacity of the fuse.

Fuses: vital for your vehicle

Fuses protect an electrical circuit against short circuits and overloads. The excessive current melts the wire, thereby interrupting the circuit. A fuse therefore prevents other parts, such as electrical cables, from overheating, becoming damaged or even catching fire. That’s why we also call a fuse a circuit breaker or a safety fuse.

How do you replace fuses?

Fuses are designed so that you can easily replace them yourself. Everything will go smoothly if you follow this step-by-step plan.

1. Turn off the ignition of your forklift, stacker or reach truck, remove the key from the ignition and disconnect your electric vehicle battery.
2. Locate the fuse box, which is usually found in the dashboard, under the driver's seat, or in the battery or engine compartment. If your search is unsuccessful, consult the user manual to find the precise location.
3. Open the fuse box and take a look at the circuit diagram to determine which fuse you need to replace, based on the defective part.
4. Remove the fuse from the circuit that no longer works, and replace it with a new one.
5. Reconnect the battery and turn the ignition on to check whether the problem has been resolved.
