The coil for negative brake is the electromagnetic coil of a spring-applied (negative) brake.
In a negative brake a spring keeps the brake engaged and the energised coil releases the brake as soon as voltage is applied. The coil is therefore essential for releasing the brake during operation; if power fails, the brake engages automatically.
