BREATHABLE PROTECTIVE COATING FOR HEALTHY WALLS

Durable, moisture-repellent coating for all absorbent, mineral substrates, such as natural stone, concrete, brick, render, etc.; both indoors and outdoors. Stone Protect is ecological, based on water-borne, mineral nanoparticles; without plastics, solvents or other toxic substances. Thanks to the strong water-repellent effect, a treated surface dries very quickly so that algae and moss cannot germinate, green and black deposits are prevented and dirt is washed away by rain. Masking off windows, panes and other surfaces is unnecessary. Easy to apply with a sprayer, Stone Protect offers more than ten years of protection in a single layer.

Use

Preparation

• Apply to a clean, dry and receptive substrate. Clean, rinse and dry the substrate if necessary. If a moss remover, acidic or alkaline cleaning agent has been used, rinse the surface thoroughly with water. After sandblasting or another abrasive method, completely remove the dust. The surface must be completely dry. Wait at least 24h after cleaning or a rain shower.
• Shake Stone Protect well before use and do not dilute.

Applying the coating

• Apply Stone Protect by spraying with the Novatio Pressure Bottle for a controlled, even dosing. For spraying, the HVLP guide value is 4 bar, with a 0.7 - 1mm spray nozzle. This can be adjusted according to the conditions and the experience of the user.
• For an optimal result, treat the entire substrate with a single non-saturating layer.
• The yield depends on the absorption capacity and the roughness of the surface, application method, experience and weather conditions.
• Apply at an ambient temperature between 10°C and 30°C and a R.H. of maximum 85%. Do not apply in rain or frost. Dry in 24 hours, depending on substrate, temperature and quantity applied. Maximum protection after 7 days. Clean surrounding materials before drying with a damp, clean cloth. Immediately after use, clean the tools with clean water.
• The yield is between 12 and 14 m² per litre (70-80 ml (g)/m²). Wearing gloves and providing good ventilation is recommended. If in doubt about the compatibility with the substrate, first test on a little or non-visible spot.

Curing

• The network of nanoparticles needs 24-48h to cure, bond and activate. The higher the temperature, the faster the curing. During this time it must not come into contact with water. Only after curing is the pearl effect visible. The action is optimal from 7 days after application.

Service life

• The service life of the coating depends on the stability of the substrate, the wear from foot traffic or contact, the chemical load and the degree of air pollution. An actual active service life of more than 10 years is realistic.

What can negatively affect the service life or the action:

• Degradation of the surface. Weak sandstone can flake off, causing the active components to wash away with it.
• Wear from foot traffic or contact: In places with a lot of foot traffic, the top layer can wear off.
• Build-up of a layer of dirt. Stone Protect is a surface-active substance. If the surface is covered with dust, pollen or mud, it will temporarily lose its action. Rain and drying restores the action. This is particularly the case on horizontal surfaces, in heavily polluted environments (industry) and after intensive atmospheric pollution (Sahara sand, pollen).
• Wetting of the surface. Stone Protect is not an impregnation, but functions through electrostatic repulsion of water. If the substrate becomes damp due to water pressure or seepage, this surface effect disappears. Stone Protect does not protect against standing water or water pressure. The nanoparticles form a network that makes the surface water-repellent. If that network is broken by pressure, friction or the use of surfactants, the substrate will absorb water. After it has fully dried, the water-repellent action is automatically restored.
• Stone Protect offers only limited protection against efflorescence of minerals on brick facades and walls. This is caused by the evaporation of moisture with dissolved metal salts from the stones, mortar or joint mortar, causing those minerals to crystallise on the surface. Because the product does not impregnate and is fully breathable, evaporation and crystallisation will still take place. However, the penetration of moisture through the facade will be greatly reduced, which strongly slows down the effect. There is no effect if the efflorescence is caused by stones or mortar that are too wet, by seeping moisture from the roof or drain, or by rising damp from the ground.
• Stone Protect is not a cleaner. Stone Protect is not suitable for treating already water-repellent or poorly absorbent surfaces (already treated with a water repellent, polished, non-porous).
