The RAM-B-231-1CHU contains a 1" rubber ball designed to sit perpendicular to the mounting rail. The stainless metal U-bolt is suitable for rails with a diameter of 1" to 1.25". The base also contains black cap covers that fit over the exposed ends of the U-bolt.
